(yes, someday I will stop blathering about crockpots)
but don’t count on it for a little while.

Fredlet Bento
Yes, still obsessed.
Here’s what I ended up with:
3 Sterilite 3.1 c rectangular containers silicone baking cups
The cooler closes with just a little bit of puff at the top but not enough to strain, but that also keeps the stuff from wiggling around in the case. No room for anything else, but that’s more in line with bento boxes anyway.
We didn’t end up going to the grocery store, so I got what I could from Target and made not a bad lunch until I get to TJ’s and possibly Whole Foods tomorrow.
brekkie:
cottage cheese with pineapple chunks
lunch:
little quiches in the silicone cups (bacon, parmesan cheese, spinach)
quinoa
mini cornbreads (just one for me)
low carb tortilla roll (turkey and cheese with ranch)
cashews
pilfered candy eggs from Tex’s stash
I grabbed a plastic egg at Target for deviled eggs, but I haven’t boiled eggs yet. I’ll have more interesting things as I move along. Also, I’m trying to not get things that you throw away after one time use (silicone baking cups for separators or condiment bowls, plastic swords to forming things, etc.) I really like the silicone baking cups because you can squish them into corners, bake in them and generally abuse them and they still stay all perky.
Oh and my apologies to Maggie who is probably right about the fact that no one cares what you had for lunch…that’s ok, the 3 of you who read my blog generally tolerate me anyway. ;)
This is *exactly* what I wanted
“fit and fresh set”

Now, where the hell do I buy this?
Atkins Bento
Some low carb bento food idears:
-little smokies
-mini quiches/shaped omelets
-chicken salad/egg salad/etc salads
-green beans
-strawberries
-blueberries
-yogurt
-cottage cheese
-deviled eggs
-low carb tortilla wraps
-raw broccoli with ranch dressing
-cucumber salad or cucumber salad or just plain cucumbers
-quinoa
-sliced up leftover steak* with grainy mustard
-babybel cheeses/laughing cow cheeses (or just cut up big cheeses to avoid all that extra packaging)
-mushrooms
-avocados
-tofu (I kinda want to cut them into star shapes, I wonder why)
-asparagus
-meatballs
-bean sprouts
-mozzarella, tomato and balsamic vinegar salad
-sammich meat rolls filled with cream cheese
*”leftover steak” is a contradiction in terms for me, so I may just have to cook a steak and not eat it so I can have it for lunch. Sure. We’ll see how that works.
(I’m kind of avoiding foods that can become stinky and also salads that are the size of a large mixing bowl anyway.)
Also, I have a shopping list for Target and Trader Joe’s for tomorrow for supplies. I want to get some of those silicone cupcake molds to use for various things and some fruit and nuts to add. I may end up doing both breakfast and lunch bentos. Half my battle when I am on atkins is eating *enough* food. Sounds counter intuitive, but then again so is atkins for most folk’s minds.
Also, if I’m using little amounts maybe I can afford singles of the fruit from Whole Foods (which is divine, but fekkin’ expensive).
Barn Kitty and Sock Monkey Hat
This year’s headgear was Sock Monkey Hat (no I didn’t make it, I haven’t had enough practice to go beyond square, but that is another blog entry.)
I had Sock Monkey socks (the ones you make sock monkeys from) a sock monkey scarf…well, mostly done, not completely – it was my plane project and finally; sock monkey keychain.
Mmmm… want to touch my monkey?
harry potter moments
there are several moments in all the movies that I love (and have named)
generally they are centered around “Ginny Weasley sighting!” or “Harry Potter Great Hair Moment” or snark.
Granted, there are several Snape-y times… and those I find amusing because a greasy git is supposed to be reviled and we all find Alan Rickman in those purple velvet robes so very hott.
HP2: Ginny Weasley sighting!
“Mum! Mummy! Have you seen my jumper?”
“Yes dear, its on the cat.”
HP2: Floating Snape
As Guilderoy Lockhart is introducing his sparring partner, Snape seems to float up the stairs onto the table.
HP3:You and your bloody chicken!
Draco is carried off after taunting Buckbeak.
HP3:Best hair moment… evah
When Harry is waving goodbye to Ron and Hermione as they head off to Hogsmeade without him as he doesn’t have a signed permissions slip
HP3:2nd best hair moment… evah
When Harry is smiling to himself as Remus Lupin is recounting something about harry’s father.
HP3: 394
“Turn to page 394.”
HP4:Go back to your knitting!
Fred and George tell people to sod off when Ron and Harry get back together and then Ron and Harry decide to have hot monkey love… not really. Just seeing if you kept reading. But they did tell everyone to go back to your knitting (this is also a Ginny Weasley Sighting!)
HP4:Moaning Myrtle perving all over Harry in the bath.
Smart (dead) girl.
HP4 also had the added bonus of having Dr. Who in it, though they blew it not having CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!!!! in there. Rat bastards.
I didn’t love HP5, so I haven’t watched it over and over. I’ll append this if I decide that I like anything about. Granted, it improved after I got over my extreme disappointment in the theater, but still…
I think it may not get any better than Azkaban and Dave McKean having his fine hand in the look of that one with Harry and the best hair ever.
Anime hair.
Also, they best not fuck up the Harry/Ginny moment. I’m just sayin’.
I got yer holiday spirit right here.
this song has been stuck in my head for 3 days solid. (aside from the times I was drooling over Dermot Mulroney… and even then…)
all over the fekkin’ place
I went to Marshall’s earlier this week to see what they had in stock for my vision of Turkey Day. I am not buying a lot, but there were just a few pieces I didn’t have for serving that I wanted.
I have these black square plates, but I only have 5 and I wanted a round number for a buffet type party thingy. 5 didn’t quite cover it. I looked at the usual places I used to see them, but I worried that they were out of print production. And it was Monday so I was in that nutzoid state that just clawed at my chest in frettitude. (as an aside, if I let myself fret like this by myself, I make this noise like my mom’s dog Sophie when she gets frustrated or whatever it is that she is upset about. I have no idea what that is. Its ok Sophie, honey. I understand.) And I just couldn’t find anything that would work along with them (I could deal with a black plate that complimented them or a white one – but everything seemed to be a too different feel) and so I did a serious amount of Google image searching, but then I finally went to BB&B’s website and found them! I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before. I guess I forget they are online.
So, that’s ordered.
Now I was looking for little tiny soup bowls that are not curved at all, sort of delicate and white. Somewhat like ramekins, but without the fluting… and taller. I’d never seen any, so I really had no idea if they even existed. I’ll be making squash soup and I figured no one is going to want a huge bowl of squash soup (no matter how damn good it is with creme fraiche) with all the other food I’ll be shoveling into their gobs. (No one goes hungry around me on Turkey Day.) and I figured small bowls that they could put on the black plates would give them enough soup and they would be able to have it all on the plate without having to carry around two dishes. (Though I will have TV trays strategically placed around the house for setting things down.)
I found some normal ramekins at Marshall’s as well as some drinking glasses (my last set I bought in Austin during college; out of 12 I am on my last one. So I allowed as how I could buy another 12 and they would last for several years as well.)
So I bought 2 sets of 4 (and needed to go look for a third set hence the return to a different Marshall’s-and I got some at the other one, so I returned from the hunt triumphant.) and the ramekins that I could return if I found the perfect thing somewhere else later. I like Marshall’s. They sometimes have the weird pieces in my china pattern and I am a total Polish Pottery slut, so I go there to fondle them without buying. (Does that make me a Polish Pottery tease?) but they also have lots of cool pottery and dishes.
I am pretty good at resisting kitchen things since my kitchen is wee tiny and I have no real storage, but I am on a mission for Turkey Day, so I allowed myself a nice white baking casserole dish which will look beautimous with the soup in it.
I also found the PERFECT BOWL, however, it had no price tag and I was pretty sure it was a sugar bowl missing the lid. I would have tried to buy it, but only one of the PERFECT BOWL just wouldn’t cut it and I’d just completely get wiggy over it…. So, I. Just. Let. It. Go. (I’m working on it, really.) Though I did make a note of the manufacturer mark on the bottom…
Ah well.
But it happened that the PERFECT BOWL happened to be the same imprint as the casserole I got as well…
The imprint is b.i.a. cordon bleu and when I Googled it, the PERFECT BOWL appeared right there on the front page of the website. (Well, actually turns out I want the 8oz quiche dishes… and I found them here. But still… I love it when I find the exact thing that is in my head.)
Can you hear the chorus of angels? Yes, this has been an utterly manic/depressive week.
Now I just have to order some.
And then the bufet.
HPATDH Spoiler!
It will be all behind the cut though…
