Dearest lectio.ca,
You know that sweater I felted (*sob*) well, I want to turn it into a cardigan.
You mentioned me making mittens, but I think a zip jacket would work better for the hare-brained scheme I have for trekking in Bhutan. (also, I am teh cheap and don’t want to pay $168 for a wool jacket.)
Does the wool/knit unravel when you cut it? Does sewing a line with the sewing machine hold it well enough for me to put the zip in? Do I need to put stuff on the edges (liquid stitches, etc.)
Inquiring minds wanna know. ;)
Thanks ever so, oh mistress of knitted socks and stuff (and the fabu danger sock shot!)
love,
fredlet
p.s. This is a hilarious pic… what’s more, I totally understand it.

Do you belong to Ravelry? You should post & ask if felted wool unravels when cut (if not, I could).
I would assume not b/c the tooth of the wool would be grabbing in any case (you can cut knitted unfelted wool & it won’t unravel, I hear). It’s a pretty solid fabric. I think you can do it.

Well, the cat DID want to have a look…
If the wool is felted, it probably won’t start to unravel. Liquid stitches would probably be a good idea, too…just in case. I bet you could get some nifty wide ribbon and do a folded hem thingee underneath to prevent any kind of ravelrage. And then put the zipper in.
But I wonder if your sewing machine will have a hard time nom-nom-nomming the wool. You might possibly want to have an extra needle on hand.
And if it doesn’t work…THEN you make mittens.

of course the kitty wants a look. Ours would want a touch as well if not a wander around in there.
The cashmere sweater we let Smokey have (with the moth hole in the front and camel color) is unappreciated so you can have it to unravel, felt, whatever…. will ship to you soon as we get back to TX.
